Music production for artists
Rusty Santos is a Los Angeles-based producer and musician who has produced and mixed for artists such as Bedroom, Born Ruffians, Dirty Projectors, Weyes Blood, Dent May, Black Dice, and Vashti Bunyan. He remixed Grizzly Bear and TV on the Radio, mastered Beach House and DJ Marfox, and wrote for Dino d’Santiago and more.
Rusty began recording when he produced Animal Collective’s celebrated Sung Tongs album. He then collaborated again with Panda Bear, mixing his landmark album Person Pitch and co-producing and mixing his recent album Buoys. His approach draws upon his background in performing arts, audio engineering, and working in multi-disciplinary art.
He specializes in producing, mixing, and mastering the genres of indie pop, chillwave, art rock, alt-pop, industrial hip hop, dream pop, psychedelic rock, folk, indie rock, chamber pop, dance-punk, experimental, new rave, alternative dance, synth pop, avant-garde jazz, and more (see discography).
His fascination with new sounds has led him to record music in many styles. He co-wrote/co-produced the song ‘Nos Funana’ (reworked by Madonna into Funana), engineered for the Chinese rapper Vinida Weng (including her DJ Mustard collaboration Run This), mastered DJ Rashad’s groundbreaking dance album Welcome to the Chi, produced songs for the Chilean artist LIZZ, and mixed modernist classics like Dawn of Midi’s album Dysnomia, Owen Pallet’s album Heartland, and Aron Ottingnon’s album Team Aquatic.
